Promoting International Dialogue and Protecting Cultural Heritage in the Caucasus
The conference ‘Promoting International Dialogue and Protecting Cultural Heritage in the Caucasus’ is organized by the research platform Russia and the Caucasus Regional Research (RUCARR) – on December 5–6, 2018, at the Faculty of Culture and Society, Malmö University, Sweden. The conference is funded by the Swedish Institute (SI).
Themes of central interest to the conference are (1) strategies and efforts to promote dialogue across the Caucasus region, and (2) the protection and study of the cultural and linguistic heritage of the peoples of the Caucasus. The lack of protection of minority cultures and minority rights is an over-arching and highly relevant topic for all countries in the region. At the same time, the issue also has bearing as a factor in many of the conflicts in the region. Several of the conflicts in the Caucasus are interrelated in complex ways and in the stage of confidence building it is important to approach the involved parties at different levels and for mutually beneficiary interaction.
The conference will include the section Protecting and maintaining the cultural heritage – Circassian perspectives. More thematic panels will be organised.
